October 15th, 17th, and 19th - The Pirates of Penzance Empty
PostSubject: October 15th, 17th, and 19th - The Pirates of Penzance   October 15th, 17th, and 19th - The Pirates of Penzance Icon_minitimeSun Oct 05, 2008 11:29 pm

I have included details below on Opera Omaha's latest production, The Pirates of Penzance, which will be at the Orpheum Theater downtown on October 15th, 17th, and 19th. The Wednesday and Friday performances are at 7:30 PM, and the Sunday performance at 2 PM. I'm not organizing a trip there, as I will be on stage as a member of the chorus. Of course, if anyone wants to organize a group to go there, that would be great. To order tickets, go to the following link:

If you order by October 8th, you can get a discount on your order by using the following code:

This is not so much an opera as an "operetta", a predecessor to the musical comedy. It is fun, hilarious, and has a lot of great tunes, including "I am the very model of a modern Major-General", "Poor wandering one!" and "With cat-like tread, upon our prey we steal". I hope you can make it.

Press Release For Immediate Release

Opera Omaha Announces

Omaha, NE - September 30, 2008

The Pirates of Penzance cast and artistic team arrived in Omaha over the weekend and began rehearsing with the Opera Omaha Chorus for the October 15, 17 and 19 performances at the Orpheum Theater. Conductor Joseph Illick and stage director Francis Cullinan, both veterans of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, were delighted with the first run through. "Audiences are going to really enjoy the beautiful voices and the delightful comic timing of this cast," states Cullinan. Illick added how delighted he was with the outstanding quality of the Opera Omaha Chorus, "This chorus is really fabulous."

OPERA OMAHA CAST:
Along with returning artists William Ferguson as Frederic and Myrna Paris as Ruth, the Opera Omaha cast is rounded out by Broadway star Patrick Ryan Sullivan as the Pirate King, Maureen Francis as Mabel, John Davies as the Police Sergeant and librettist and singer Gene Scheer as the Major-General. Click Here to read more details about individual cast members.

THE STORY:
Off the rocky coast of Cornwall we meet our hero, Frederic, who was apprenticed since childhood to a band of tenderhearted, orphaned Pirates. Upon completing his 21st year, Frederic rejoices that he has fulfilled his indentures and is now free to return to respectable society. Frederic soon meets the many unwed daughters of a Major-General, including the youngest, Mabel. Their tête-à-tête is interrupted when the Pirates return and capture the family. The Major-General proclaims that he, too, is an orphan and secures their release. Frederic and Mabel plan to marry, but it turns out Frederic was born on February 29 in a leap year, and he remains apprenticed to the Pirates until his 21st birthday. Scheming and hilarity ensue as the Pirate King, Police Sergeant and the Major-General's many daughters all work to achieve a happy ending. Click Here to read the synopsis of The Pirates of Penzance.
